“In its simplest terms, this show depicts the experience of pursuing Art and Justice as tools for expression. It goes beyond representing individuals like me and my background on the westside of Burque. It explores the challenges of striving under a flag with red and white stripes and stars meant to guide us but has, instead, sought to hinder our dreams. The narrative delves into living, loving, and pursuing goals without the barriers and walls imposed upon us. In our reality, we've become performers, dictated on what to speak about, live for, and do, all under the banner of "Pride." Where I come from, pride doesn't yield any benefits in life.” -JP

As a Chicano artist, born and raised in Albuquerque, NM on the westside of the city, Joshua Patterson believes art should be thought provoking and challenge the viewer to grasp the idea of what's taking place. Whether that be something that invokes culture, community or the state of where he is, as a man, finding himself daily. With his art, Joshua uses the idea of two people, Art and Justice. He uses this idea to tell their story of what their relationship looks like between them no matter the subject. He uses spray paint, hand cut stencils, an 8-color palette, and, for larger pieces, the incorporation of neon glass.
