‘Mouth of the Fish’

I grew up learning the names of random items in only Arabic, not knowing their English equivalent. In Arabic, 'snapdragons' are referred to as 'tum el samakeh' or 'mouth of the fish', and it was only later in life did I learn their English names. The power and gift of language is something that families, especially immigrant families, take with them when they move to a new land or home, and it's a gift they pass on to their children, either knowingly or unknowingly. I cherish the names of these items that I first only knew their very visual names of, in Arabic.
